Science PlaygroundThrough December 30 (weather permitting) It's 60,000 square feet of outdoor fun! Through popular playground elements like slides and seesaws, visitors of all ages and abilities can explore the scientific principles of motion, balance, sound, sight, and simple machines, as well as sun, wind, and water. $4 per visitor. Climate Change ActivityApril 24 – September 5, Weekends, 11 am – 4 pm Compare the changes in temperature caused by differing levels of carbon dioxide, learn about climate change, and find out how you can help our Earth. Free with general admission. Evening Sky Constellation Show: Astronomy Discovery LabWeekends, 1 & 4 pm View the night sky and learn more about constellations. Free with general admission. World Maker Faire New York 2010September 25 – 26, 2010 A family fun festival to MAKE, create learn, invent, Craft, recycle, build, think, play & be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology. National Chemistry DayOctober 23, 10 am – 4 pm Get out your lab goggles and join NYSCI and the American Chemical Society in celebrating the excitement of chemistry. Members from area colleges' chemical organizations will be hosting hands-on activity tables. Catapult DemonstrationOctober 2 – 31, Weekends; 1 & 3 pm See NYSCI’s 19-foot outdoor catapult in action! Learn about the history and science and then watch us hurl things across the field. Catapult Family WorkshopOctober 3, 9, 17 & 23; 11 am – 1 pm Families build a table-top catapult together. Learn more about the science behind these powerful machines with hands-on activities; build and test out your own catapult; and see NYSCI’s 19-foot outdoor catapult up close and personal! Ages 8 and older; Pre-registration required. Digital CatapultsOctober 23, 11 am – 4 pm Test your ability to design catapults to hit a target! Draw and test solutions to catapult puzzles on an interactive whiteboard designed by NYSCI staff. Free, ages 6 and older. Pumpkin ChuckingOctober 30 – 31, 1 & 3 pm Bring your Halloween pumpkin to NYSCI and watch it splat! We’ll be chucking your basketball-sized pumpkins all afternoon. Free, all ages.
