Preschool Place

Bring your family and explore and discover the natural and built world of a city in this playful environment for children ages 6 and younger. Find the ways in which urban and natural landscapes are inter-related. Encounter the Tree of Trees and the animals that live in this habitat. Pretend to be a squirrel or turtle and stage a puppet show. Plant, pick, shop, sort and count fruits and vegetables in a multi-ethnic market. Experience multi-sensory activities in a special area for babies.

Preschool Studio (Open to groups by reservation only) Call 718.699.0301 for group reservation information. Bring your group and experience a science themed workshop in this private area within the Preschool Place. Discover more than 22 hands-on exhibits designed for early learners with their teachers and caretakers. Turn cranks, push pedals and use cranes to hoist and transport foam bricks around the building area. See if your ball can race to the bottom first at the ball-drop wall. Construct a 3-foot arch, or build a fantastic design of your own using blocks that connect in different ways. Build a train from magnetic cars and drive it around the train table. Stage your own puppet show in a child-scale puppet theater. Play house in the dollhouse, or climb the stairs to the loft space and check out the colorful view. Use a magnifier and take a close-up look at fossils, lifecycles, magnets, music, and more inside thematic discovery boxes. Continue your exploration through an exciting collection of stories and science books.

The Hall’s Exhibit Guide for Preschoolers, a guide to help children 6 and younger explore the Hall’s other exhibitions.
Preschool Family Adventures! This exciting program series at the New York Hall of Science enables preschoolers and their favorite adventurous adults to find new ways to explore the fascinating world we live in. Venture from the Preschool Place to other parts of the museum, and use your amazing powers of observation to see, hear, touch, (and smell) some surprising things! Each one-hour session will include a guided activity, a “field trip” out on the museum floor, an experiment, a creative project, and suggested activities to try at home. Each session will also include private time for free exploration in the Preschool Place Studio. Sessions are limited to 30 people.
