SCL Alumni Spotlight

Anthony Negron

In the spring of 2002, Anthony Negron joined the SCL as an Explainer. He quickly moved up the rungs to Program Explainer and after graduating from Pace University last summer, he applied and got accepted as a Digital Learning Curriculum Developer in the Education Department.

What was it like changing positions from Explainer to the Education Department?
I thought it would be a hard transition for me only because I knew change was coming my way. Being in the Explainer Department was such a great experience for me not only as an employee but also as a person. I was able to develop communication, leadership and managerial skills, which are the key to success in almost any profession. I was also able to meet some amazing people who really had an impact on my development. Those people are best known as the Explainer Leadership Team. I knew once I heard that I was accepted for the position to join the Education Department, I was more than ready to handle the workload. My fellow employees in Digital Learning made the transition really smooth. They accepted me quickly and truly created a positive atmosphere for me to work in.

What is your role as Digital Learning Curriculum Developer and what difference did it make in your life?
My current role as Digital Learning Curriculum Developer mainly revolves around our videoconferencing unit. I write, develop and teach different programs using our videoconferencing technology to other schools across the United States. My most recent creation, Mathematica: Beyond Numbers, has been a huge success. It is definitely rewarding to see something that you put together end up being a big hit with teachers. Another main priority of mine is to help create and run the JP Morgan Chase Connections Discovery Lab training for Explainers and Explainer Interns. I really enjoy the entire training process from creation to implementation. I am really happy to still be involved with my previous department and hope to continue my success in the museum.

What is your "master plan"?
That is a pretty intense question. Well, to be honest I am putting a lot of faith in winning a Real World/Road Rules challenge. Just kidding! I guess I would say my master plan is to enjoy life to the fullest and continue to do my best. I am a very hard worker and I know that whatever challenges come my way; I am ready to face them. Confidence, persistence, and family are the main things that are going to help me overcome obstacles and achieve my master plan. I consider myself a very lucky guy who has been given the chance to be surrounded by good friends and an amazing family who help motivate me to deal with some tough times in my life.

What is your next step in life?
My next step in life involves me furthering my education. It is funny because I would say I definitely have a love-hate relationship with school. The amount of work can be overwhelming at times but in the end it is entirely worth it. Achievement is a great feeling and when I received my B.B.A, I knew that it would not be the last degree I get. I am already scheduled to take the GMATs in early March and will be applying to graduate schools for the fall. In terms of my career, I would love to continue working in an environment such as the Hall and developing new knowledge, skills and abilities.
