The Science Technology Library of NYSCI presents Family Science Activity Kits (SAKS) available to NYSCI members.

Explore hands-on science when you take home one of our Science Activity Kits (SAKS). Each kit has everything you need to conduct three to four fun and easy science activities at home.

Grade levels distinctions are just a guide. Feel free to try any grade level kit.

SAKS can be rented for 1 week. There is a $6 materials fee for each kit.

Exploring Matter Can you fold milk? Or cut water? Why can’t you? Learn the answer and why this matters when you borrow this SAK.

Matter and Energy Can matter change? What are different forms of matter? How does light give us energy? How does light move? Shed some light on these questions and much more in Matter and Energy.

Weather and Seasons Why is it hot in the summer and cold in the winter? How do the seasons change? Find out the answers in this kit.

Grades 3 – 4

Cycles on Earth and in Space The cycles of the Moon, how the Earth spins, the change of Seasons, the movement of Weather and Water are some of the mysteries you can study in this kit.

Exploring Earth’s Surface Find out about Earth’s layers, earthquakes, rocks and minerals by conducting the experiments in this SAK.

Investigating Matter Investigate the inner workings of matter—volume, states, temperature and mixtures.

Patterns on Earth and in Space What goes on in space? How do we know what space looks like? Do events that happen in space effect earth? Answer these questions through investigations in the comfort of your own home.

Grades 5 – 6

Building Blocks of Matter Atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures are learned about through experiments and investigations.

Processes that Change the Earth This kit explores volcanoes, earthquakes, rocks and much more. Try this kit to better understand how Earth has changed and continues changing.

The Living Planet Want to know about what supports life on Earth? Ecosystems are studied, and explored.  Learn about different Cycles – Water and Carbon Dioxide-Oxygen and about what can be done to preserve our natural resources.
