NYSCI offers innovative Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) professional development experiences for teachers of all grades. Our goal is to support teachers at becoming more confident, competent and comfortable with both the process and content of STEM teaching and learning. All programs are correlated to the New York State Science Standards for K-12.
In addition to our professional development workshops and institutes, NYSCI offers a Science Coach Program. Through the science coach program, a NYSCI educator visits and co-teaches with your teachers once per week throughout the year in order to model hands-on STEM lessons, support students in practicing for their mandated science tests, and help with growing a culture of science learning in your entire school.
NYSCI’s curricular philosophy is that teaching science in an inquiry-based approach allows students to exercise problem solving skills, and critically thinking skills so that they can apply those skills to new situations. Such students who have had practice thinking like a scientist will have the capacity and the motivation to pursue degrees in — and eventually careers in — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
