Science Majors: Thinking about a Career in Education?

The New York Hall of Science, in collaboration with the City College of New York (CCNY) and CUNY Graduate Center has developed a new fellowship to bring more science teachers to the New York City community. Through a combination of paid work at NYSCI and free education courses at CCNY, you’ll be able to get your teaching certification while pursuing your science degree.

As an Explainer, you’ll conduct demonstrations, assist school programs and provide visitors with fun, interactive learning experiences. Through this unique experiential learning, you’ll have a head start to becoming a great teacher.

Why should you apply? If selected, you receive:

• A stipend to take education classes at CCNY
• Assistance to get placement for student teaching in New York City
• Assistance to take the New York State Certified Teacher’s exam
• Assistance with placement to teach grades 7 – 12 science in New York City
• Paid job working 5 – 20 hours/week at NYSCI as an Explainer, helping visitors explore science exhibits
