'Museum Programs Turn Kids on to Science' NSTA Reports

Many teachers acknowledge the role of science centers and museums in motivating students to study science. Two museum programs also have sparked students’ interest in teaching science: The New York Hall of Science’s Science Career Ladder program and the Association of Science-Technology Centers’ Youth ALIVE! project.

The mission of the New York Hall of Science is "to convey the excitement and understanding of science and technology to children, families, teachers and others by galvanizing their curiosity and offering them creative, participatory ways to learn." When the museum's Science Theatre program was being developed, starting in 2000, careful consideration was taken to ensure that the program's mission followed these guidelines.
