Husband and Wife Featured in Simultaneous Solo Exhibitions
9-14-06
Queens, N.Y. – The New York Hall of Science’s upcoming presentation of Reclamations and Invoking Presence marks the first time artists Ellen and Norman Galinsky will share adjoining exhibition spaces. The exhibitions will be on view September 16 – December 5 and an artists’ reception is planned for September 17, 2 – 4 pm.
Featured in the LeCroy Gallery, Mrs. Gallinsky’s photography exhibition Reclamations looks at the remains of walls, doors and windows in the United States, China, Cambodia, Greece and Portugal, tracing the process of change as nature reclaims what is left of human creation. In the adjacent Viscusi Gallery, Mr. Galinsky’s exhibition Invoking Presence includes paintings and drawings of images relating to “sacred geometry,” energy patterns, unity and balance. His images are intended to encourage introspection and harmony, and to promote healing by invoking the aliveness of the present moment.
Mrs. Galinsky is President and Co-founder of Families and Work Institute, a Manhattan nonprofit organization. She had her first major photography show in her hometown, Charleston, W.V., followed by exhibitions at the SoHo Foundation-Alfred Stieglitz Gallery. Among her many one-person showings are the Rockland Center for the Arts, Edward Hopper House, Uma Gallery, NYC, and Imaging Arts Gallery. Mrs.Galinsky is also the author and photographer of several children’s books: Catbird and The Baby Cardinal. She was selected to be part of the historic photography book “Women See Woman.” Her photographs were displayed at The White House Conference on Early Learning. She is the author of 35 books and reports, many of which are illustrated with her photographs.
Mr. Galinsky’s training as an engineer at the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University led to further studies at the Art Students League, The New School, Pratt Graphic Center, and others. Among his first exhibitions in 1977, he was presented at the Truman Gallery, NYC (formerly Betty Parson’s Gallery), and later at the Edward Hopper House (solo exhibit) in Nyack, N.Y. His work has been shown at the Katonah Museum, Allen Sheppard Gallery, and collected by IBM, Merck, Bank of America, Exxon-Mobil, Smith Barney and numerous collectors. The Rockland Center of the Arts has benefited from his curatorial talents and solo exhibitions.
The exhibitions are curated by Audrey Leeds.
