New York Hall of Science Hosts ‘Meet the Photographer: Michael Maurer’

Queens, N.Y. - The New York Hall of Science will celebrate the award-winning art of photographer, attorney and entrepreneur Michael Maurer on September 15 with a Meet the Photographer event in the museum’s LeCroy Gallery. Maurer will be available from 3 – 5 pm to review his underwater subjects and the technique of macro-photography.
Water Colors provides an intimate, close-up look at the smallest of deep-sea creatures. The collection exhibited is also featured in a colorful “coffee-table” book entitled “Water Colors,” which will be available at the event and in the Hall’s gift shop.
Maurer’s underwater pictures have won numerous awards and have been exhibited at the Durst Conde Nast Building (New York, N.Y.); the Blue Hill Cultural Center (Pearl River, N.Y.); the Waters Building of the Indianapolis Zoo; The National Art Museum of Sport (Indianapolis, In.) and the Indianapolis Art Center.
Maurer’s interests have included the initial development and operations of cable television systems throughout Indiana and Michigan. He is President and CEO of Maurer/ShawCommunications, which produced the theatrical film “Diving In” that was shown on HBO. Maurer is Chairman of the Board of IBJ Corporation that owns and publishes the Indianapolis Business Journal and Commercial Record, The Indiana Lawyer and Indianapolis Prime Times. In 2005, Maurer was named President of the Indiana Economic Development Corp, and in 2006 named the Indiana Secretary of Commerce by Governor Mitch Daniels. Maurer enjoys leadership through active participation as a director of numerous business, civic, educational and philanthropic organizations such as “Mickey’s Camp,” a charitable endeavor that has raised over $500,000 for central Indiana charities. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado and attended the Indiana University School of Law where he was a writer and editor of the law Journal and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He is admitted to both the New York and the Indiana Bars.
He is married to Janie Maurer; they have three children and four grandchildren.
