Summoning All Magicians: The Hall Conjures Master Magician Video Contest

Queens, N.Y. – The New York Hall of Science is hosting a Master Magician Contest in anticipation of the opening of the blockbuster exhibition Magic: The Science of Illusion on June 28.
 
Adults and children are invited to create a video of themselves performing their favorite magic trick to illustrate the connection between science and magic.
 
Contest
 
Prizes: The title “Master Magician of the New York Hall of Science,” along with a Magic Prize Package including a $50 gift certificate to the Hall's Science Shop, will be awarded to the producer of the top video in both Adult (15 and older) and Kids (14 and younger) categories. The three top finalists in each category will receive New York Hall of Science t-shirts.
 
Dates: Video submissions should be uploaded to www.youtube.com/group/magicatnyscience by June 9. A Hall committee will select the top 3 finalists in the Adult and Kids categories and post their videos to nyscience.org on June 11. The winners will be officially announced at a Magic: The Science of Illusion press conference on June 26.
 
Contestants who do not have access to the equipment necessary to produce and upload a Master Magician video submission, may do so for free at the Hall on from 2 – 4:30 pm on May 16, May 23 and May 30.
 
Video Submission Guidelines:

  • Submissions should include a verbal mention of  “Magic: The Science of Illusion at the New York Hall of Science”
  • Videos may be up to two minutes in length
  • Videos will be evaluated based on creativity, entertainment and relevance to the theme Magic: The Science of Illusion (go to www.nyscience.org/magic for exhibition details)
  • Magic tricks should be possible off camera--Please no digital trickery
  • If the age of contestants is incorrect or not listed on the contestant’s YouTube account, contestants should submit their age via e-mail to magic@nyscience.org
  • By submitting an entry to the contest, contestants certify that no other person owns any portion of the content of their videos
  • Videos containing inappropriate language or content will not be accepted

The producer of the video (in both age categories) receiving the most votes will be invited to the June 26 Magic press conference and other Magic events. The winning video will remain on www.nyscience.org through the duration of Magic, which is open through September 14. Magic: The Science of Illusion
 
Magic: The Science of Illusion explores science concepts used in a set of custom-made illusions and shows how these science concepts relate to our everyday lives. In the exhibition, visitors can learn how magicians use psychology, physics, math, engineering and the art of performance to create complex and visually stunning effects.
 
Magic: The Science of Illusion was developed by the California Science Center.
