Preschool Workshops

Preschool and PreK groups can choose a themed workshop that includes free-play in Preschool Place.

Workshops in Preschool Place Studio
Choose from one of the six activities listed below (activities are approximately 20 minutes long) and then enjoy 25 minutes of free-play time in a private section of Preschool Place. Each activity comes with an educator guide.
Days and Times: Tuesday – Friday only; 10 am - 2 pm
Session: 45 minutes (maximum: 25 children). Sessions include free-play time in Preschool Place Studio.
Fee: $75 per session per group (plus group admission fees). Session fees are due at the time of booking. Group admission fees are due one month in advance.

Preschool Place Activity Workshop choices
Honeybees Life Science, ages 3 – 6
Explore the life of the amazing honeybee. Learn how and why honeybees make honey. Find out how bees communicate through "bee dances."

Music and Sound Physical Science, ages 3 – 6
Learn how the sounds we hear are really vibrations. Use rhythm instruments to make different sounds, and play the beat to accompany a favorite song.

Butterflies Life Science, ages 3 – 6
Take a close look at the bodies of a caterpillar and a butterfly, and explore the life cycle of butterflies.

Nuts About Squirrels Life Science, ages 3 – 6
We see them everywhere, but how much do we know about these terrific creatures? Find out how squirrels eat and live, and go on an acorn scavenger hunt.

Take a journey inside the human body, as we explore breathing, eating, bones and more!

Dino Hunt Earth Science, ages 4 – 6
Become a paleontologist and hunt for fossils. Learn about different dinosaurs and how fossils are formed.

Free-Play Time In Preschool Place
In the Preschool Place's workshops space, your students can turn cranks and transport foam bricks; see if their ball can race to the bottom first at the Ball Run; Construct a 3-foot arch or build a fantastic design of their own using blocks that connect in different ways; use our trains on the train table; climb the stairs to our loft space and explore with our view finders and talk-tubes; or stage their own puppet show!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Which fees must be paid in advance?
All fees for Preschool Workshops must be paid on the schedule of group admission fees. If you are paying with a P.O. please let Reservations know.
Are refunds given for Preschool Workshops if a trip is cancelled?
Fees for Preschool Workshops are refundable if cancelled a month or more in advance.
Is it possible to reschedule a Preschool Workshop?
To reschedule your workshop call the reservations department at least 2 weeks prior to your trip date. After that time your payment cannot be transferred to another date.
What if we are late for our workshop?
If your group is late 15 minutes or more, your workshop may be shortened, reschedules on that same day, or cancelled.
Which program would be most appropriate for my class?
The recommended age ranges are listed for each activity. If you would like to learn more about the content of the workshops, call the Supervisor of Early Childhood Learning at 718-699-0005 ext. 343.
What else is there for my class to do at NYSCI?
Before and after your workshop, your class may explore the rest of NYSCI’s hands-on exhibits. Please note, only groups reserving a Preschool Place workshop may visit Preschool Place.
